Abstract
The study assessed the performance of North-East Development Commission (NEDC) on food security in the northeast region of Nigeria since it was passed into law and assented by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017. The study adopted the qualitative approach and argued that the commission, even though very commendable and timely, has a long way to go regarding food security as it has become extremely difficult for the inhabitants of the region to return to their farmlands. The study also revealed that the commission has distributed foods and non-food items to the inhabitants of the affected states but has not yielded many results due to corrupt practices in the system. The study, therefore, recommends that the commission should do more in distributing foods and non-food items without corruption. The youths in the region should be engaged in agriculture, while the security outfit should be fortified to enable the farmers to access their farmlands.
