Challenges Facing Muslim Women Entrepreneurs in Jigawa State, Nigeria: Charting a Way Forward

Abstract
This study seeks to examine the challenges facing Muslim women entrepreneurs in Jigawa State. It intends to provide a way out of the Muslim women entrepreneurs’ predicaments by examining the socio-cultural context in which the economic empowerments of Muslim women take place and its implication on Jigawa state’s and the Nigerian economy. Authors used theoretical data synthesis for the study, employing both online and physical documents which were digested using thematic and theoretical data explanations. The study found that with a little support from the state and federal entrepreneurship schemes and innovations Muslim women entrepreneurs have the potential to promote economic development; and understanding and addressing the challenges of Muslim women entrepreneurs such as religious bigotry, gender inequality, diverse ethnicity and political corruption can inform the design of more effective development policies for the thrive of Jigawa state economy in particular and the Nigeria’s economy as a whole. This research has both social and practical implications for stakeholders, policymakers and Muslim women entrepreneurs with the view to facilitate and promote the socially responsible businesses among Muslim women entrepreneurs for social and national development. The study recommended that government should promote mentorship and skills development for women entrepreneurs, give tax incentives and provide access to special funding and development programs that can help Muslim women entrepreneurs to succeed.
